Today we had a opportunity to share our inquiry presentations with the the rest of the school and parents. It was heaps of fun telling everybody about our learning.
Today the Junior Yellow Team had their "Tell the World" sharing about their inquiry projects. Each group made a keynote to present what they had learnt. I have made these into PDFs. Some of the YouTube links won't work, but you will find these below the presentation. We would love some comments about our presentations. All the children have worked so hard and should feel so proud of their work. Awesome effort team, you are all stars!
On the 28th of June Matariki will be celebrated. Matariki is the Māori New Year. This week we are learning about Matariki, what it is; when it is; why it was important to early Māori; and what is/was done to celebrate Matariki? Have a look at this video to learn some more about Matariki. This was made by some children at Gulf Harbour School and we are using it as inspiration to create our own Puppet Pals about Matariki. We will post some of our video when they are finished. Here are some links to information about Matariki.http://www.kiwifamilies.co.nz/articles/matariki-maori-new-year/ http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/matariki-maori-new-year/page-1 Liam made this fantastic keynote with lots of shark facts. Take a look and make a comment about something new you learnt.
Have a look at these websites and videos. Use this information and the information from your journal to write a summary of how how stalactites and stalagmites are formed. You will need to take notes as you read the information and watch the videos.
Yesterday we had whole school assembly. Samara recieved a certificate for demonstrating our key competency and Molly, Rian, and Liam recieved their certificates for top 3 finishes in the school cross country. Awesome work! In writing this week we have been writing descriptions. We have been working on looking closely at what we are describing and carefully choosing words to add detail. Have a read of our descriptions. We watched this clip about how a spider spins their web. Sticky icky web. Sun shines, Spider stays, waiting.
The water drips. The spider looks around searching for his prey. He moves slowly. Bam! The spider moves. The fly scrambles to get out. The shiny, silky web wobbles. The fly tries to get out as the spider gangs up on him. Suddenly snap! The rain thundered over the clouds. Bang! The fly's gone. Bother. By Kade Spiders eat flies. They make webs to hunt flies. Webs dripping. Spiders hunting. Flies are out there and spiders are waiting for their prey. The flies do not see the web and then zap! By Ezra The sun was shinning on the sticky web making it sparkle like diamonds. A fly comes around the corner, it does not see the spider. If flies into the web. The spider has got his prey. His web is becoming very very thin. It looks invisible. A moth comes. It does not see the web. Bullseye! The moth is captured. By Amelie Today we had a bake sale to raise money for the Red Puppy Appeal. The baking looked really tasty and it was delicious. |
